I am a first-generation graduate student. I immigrated from Mexico as a child. I have been fortunate to continue my education thanks to the support of family members, teachers, professors, and individuals who believed I could achieve my dreams regardless of immigration status. My journey in higher education only started when undocumented students were able to transfer to and apply to universities in California. Since then, the journey has been difficult but also rewarding. Along the way I have learned that once a family member can attend higher education, others follow. This affect spreads to other members of the community. I hope that as a team member of the Undocumented Student Resource Center, I can use my experiences to help other students in similar situations achieve their goals and keep their dreams alive.
