The UndocuAdvocate Program for Educators (UPE)
The UndocuAdvocate Program for Educators (UPE) is a program led by the Undocumented Student Resource Center (USRC) for the UCD community. UPE is an opportunity for UCD educators (staff, faculty, TAs, GAS and GSRs) to engage in shared knowledge and opportunities regarding serving and advocating alongside the undocumented and immigrant student community at UC Davis.
Through discussions on laws, policies, mental health support, resources, and access, educators will gain a better understanding of the undergraduate and graduate/professional undocumented and immigrant student experience at UC Davis. This course is designed to be a first step towards creating more accessible and equitable experiences for undocumented and immigrant students at UC Davis within your respective unit and departments, as it is our collective responsibility to serve ALL students, regardless of immigration status.
UPE training this year will be led by Edgar Huerta, USRC Strategic Planning and Resource Fellow, and will cover the following distinct topics:
- Immigration Law and Policy Updates, Chris Relos, UCIMM Immigration Attorney
- Mental Health Support, Christian Cazares, UC Davis SHCS
- USRC Resource Refresher, Joyce Zamorano Sanchez, USRC Resource Coordinator
- Strengthening UndocuAdvocacy Partnerships & Engagement, Daniela Telles, USRC Interim Director
