The USRC Strategic Planning Process
With efforts launched in 2024-2025 and completed in 2025-2026, the Undocumented Student Resource Center's (USRC) strategic plan process brought together students, staff, faculty, and community members to shape the Center’s future. Building on the foundation of the USRC’s original 2014-2015 strategic plan, this effort reflected on our strengths, identified opportunities for growth, and envisioned the next 3 to 5 years of service to the undocumented community. Grounded in community feedback, this plan affirms our commitment to evolving, strengthening our impact, and advancing a shared vision for the future.
Our Values
As we revised our mission statement and developed a vision statement for the next chapter of the USRC, five community values organically emerged from our community conversations to guide the future of our work.
- Practical Holistic Care
Providing practical support that fosters our students’ overall wellbeing, abundant mindset, gratitude and a sense of self-worth are essential while addressing our community’s most pressing challenges. Access to basic needs, reputable immigration legal counsel, career advising and mental health support to navigate life’s pressures with grace and self-compassion are our top priority. - Community Centered Resistance
Our foundation is mutual respect and the recognition that we all need strong support networks to provide what is needed to succeed. Our power comes from our collective wisdom, trust in ourselves and trust our supporters to resist in community care everywhere we go. - Self-Empowerment through Courage, Change and Transformation
Recognizing our humanity and learning from a place of care fosters our ability to grow outside our comfort zone. We affirm our personal agency and practice our ability to courageously advocate for oneself, our families, and the communities we are a part of at UC Davis and beyond. - Justice and Equity
A warm, welcoming and accessible educational environment for undocumented and immigrant scholars at UC Davis is only possible by embracing our shared responsibility in building systems, practices and policies that deliver justice and equity to the communities we serve. - Transcendence
The shared legacy of the USRC is built upon your engagement in the undocumented student movement at UC Davis. Collective and resourceful involvement creates long-lasting and sustainable change beyond the needs of the current moment for future generations to cultivate with love for years to come.
Our Goals
Grounded in the USRC’s mission, values and in alignment with our divisional goals, the USRC will realize its vision statement by focusing its staff capacity and resources on the following strategic priorities:
- Goal #1 Build a Comprehensive Transition Pipeline for Undoc Students
- Create a seamless continuum of support that empowers undocumented and immigrant students to successfully transition into UC Davis
- Goal #2 Redesign Career and Life Planning for Undocumented Realities
- Transform career development into an affirming, justice-centered process that proactively addresses immigration-related barriers while empowering students to imagine expansive futures rooted in agency, adaptability, and self-determination.
- Goal #3 Solidify Holistic Care and Equitable Student Support Systems
- Ensure that every undocumented student at UC Davis has equitable access to coordinated, culturally responsive support systems that foster wellbeing, belonging, stability, and long-term success.
- Goal #4 Cultivate Conscious Identity, Community and Leadership
- Foster a transformative campus culture where undocumented and immigrant students are affirmed in their identities, connected to community, and empowered to become leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their communities if they so choose.
- Goal #5 Strengthen Institutional Capacity and Transform Campus Practices
- Position UC Davis as a national leader in undocumented student success by embedding equity-centered practices, coordinated systems, and shared accountability across the institution.
