Job Summary
The Undocumented Student Resource Center (USRC) Front Desk Scholar Staff will provide operational, administrative, and marketing support to the UC Davis undocumented immigrant community, and more. Under the supervision of the Resource Coordinator, the scholar staff will provide referrals and drop-in support to the community members that visit the center for various needs of support. They serve as representatives promoting the mission of the Undocumented Student Resource Center. Please note this position REQUIRES U.S. WORK AUTHORIZATION.
Hourly Rate: $17.90
Job Description
Operational Duties
- Greet all guests and visitors, providing a welcoming environment and referring them to the appropriate resource(s).
- Respond to guest inquiries in person, over the phone, and email.
- Provide guided tours of the USRC, providing accurate information on the center’s history, events, resources, and campus partners.
- Provide support for campus partner in person days at the USRC (e.g. Financial Aid Advisor, UC IMM Staff Attorney, CAN Counselor, Doctoral Fellow/Intern).
- Stay up to date with the USRC event calendar
- Responsibly and attentively follow USRC opening and closing procedures.
Marketing Duties
- Review and follow both USRC and UC Davis branding and accessibility guidelines
- Create marketing materials utilizing Canva to advertise USRC resources and events (Flyers, Instagram posts, Instagram stories, etc.)
- Aid in the communication and marketing strategy of crucial student dates/deadlines (e.g. CA Dream Act Application deadline, grants, center events, etc.)
- Scheduling and publishing social media posts to ensure consistent content
- Create and distribute the USRC weekly newsletter
Administrative Duties
- General office tasks including answering the phone, filing, making photocopies, scanning, and inventory.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry for the USRC Swipe System
Event Support
- Aid in the planning and execution of yearly USRC events, such as: UndocuWelcome, UndocuProm, and ImmiGrad (unless a graduating senior)
- Provide event support for USRC programming and outreach events when needed.
Terms of Employment
- Be available to begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and be available to engage in the role for the entirety of 26/27 Academic Year.
- Attend in-person Fall Training starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026 to Wednesday, September 16, 2026. No exceptions. Dates subject to change.
- Engage in role in-person at the USRC. This is not a remote position.
- Attend weekly in-person USRC team meeting, Seminar, held Fridays from 10 AM - 12 PM during Week 0/1 through Week 10 during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarter. (Unless class is required for graduation, and cannot be taken any other time, with approval of supervisor)
- Attend 1:1’s with supervisor, Resource Coordinator
- Maintain confidentiality - you will work in a student facing environment with sensitive information.
Qualifications
- Valid Work authorization in the USA is required
- Must be a continuing Sophomore or Junior in the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Must be a currently enrolled UC Davis undergraduate student maintain good academic standing at the time of application and for the entirety of employment.
- Ability to work independently from a task list with periodic check-ins, as well as be able to work collaboratively as a part of a team
- Must be self-motivated and show initiative to complete tasks
- Must be organized, reliable, responsible, and have time management skills
- Must be willing to maintain a positive work environment and be able to demonstrate a flexible and professional work ethic
- Must have some knowledge of the Center’s resources, programming, and educational offerings, along with knowledge of the immigrant community
- Must possess skills to work well with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty while demonstrating sound judgment, integrity and sensitivity.
- Understand and demonstrate skills to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
- Strong computer skills preferred, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel), Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets), and proficiency in Instagram and Canva.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
Scheduling
Student will be scheduled around the student's class schedule.
The Front Desk scholar staff roles will be filled by current UC Davis undergraduate students and will work approximately 6-12 hours/week during the academic quarter (Fall, Winter and Spring) from Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and Fridays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. On Wednesdays towards the end of the academic quarter, the center is open 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM, scholar team will rotate the late shift on a quarterly basis.
Some prearranged evening and weekend hours may be required to support in USRC events and operations.
